Microbial Freeze Drying Buffer is the superior lyoprotectant for the preservation of microorganisms as compared to traditional additives such as skim milk and sucrose.  Microbial Freeze Drying Buffer has evolved from a standard solution described in the ATCC lyophilization manual and has currently been improved to be free of all animal products and proteins!   

To use, cultured microorganisms are pelleted by centrifugation, the culture broth is decanted, and the pellet is resuspended in the buffer.  Shelf freeze drying can be done overnight with a supplied protocol.  Viability of bacteria in this buffer is over 90%, far exceeding methods relying on sucrose and skim milk.   

This product is sterile filtered and aseptically filled.  Shelf life of the sterile product is over two years and counting ( see report).  The Microbial Freeze Drying Buffer is available in 500 ml PET bottles.
